Lot 37 - World Sheep & Wool Congress Set of 2
A$2.60
Stamps issued in 1989 in recognition of the World Sheep & Wool Congress, held in Tasmania, February 27 to March 6.
Both are 39cent stamps and are the first two in a set of four.
First in the set is the Merino Sheep. Introduced into Australia in 1797, this spanish variety was well suited to the Australian environment and became a terrific wool producer.
Next is the Poll Dorset Sheep. In 1937, a Corriedale ram was mated with a Dorset Horn ewe to initiate the poll gene. Poll Dorsets were found to be popular for producing superior meat for both domestic and export markets.
Buy the set of two for just AUD$2.60.
