Lot 27 - Australian Flora and Fauna set of 3

A$2.95

These stamps were issued in 1971, 1973 and 1980.

The 'State Flowers' series included the Sturt's Desert Rose, representing the 'Northern Territory'.  It was issued in a number of values with the 2cent stamp being offered here.

The 2cent Fiddler Crab stamp is part of the 'Australian Marine Life and Gemstones' series. An unusual crab, with males recognised by an oversized claw.  This is waved to attract mates, thus, resembling a musician playing a fiddle.

The 1978 'Australian Birds' series was continued and in 1980 produced the 22cent 'vertical' White Tailed Kingfisher stamp.  This bird lives in the more tropical regions of Australia and commonly nests in arboreal termite mounds.
